Info on the 458′s tri-exhaust system

Though I really dislike the new Ferrari 458 (and if you are a real car person, you do also),  I will say that I am impressed that the 3 exhaust pipes have a real purpose. According to this months Motor Trend, the center pipe “exists from the twin silencers at idle, cruising, light-throttle operation. The outer two serve the bypass valves, which open under wide-open running at different rpm depending on the manettino setting, reducing back pressure from 7.3 to 5 psi”
